What is Alterac Pass

Alterac Pass is a Warcraft franchise battleground that requires you to push the lanes, summon mercenaries and cavalry, and defeat the boss instead of core in the end. In World of Warcraft it's a huge battleground called Alterac Valley and in earlier versions it's games would last for hours.

Long ago, the warlock Gul'dan exiled a clan of orcs called the Frostwolves to a valley hidden deep in the heart of the Alterac Mountains. The Frostwolf Clan eked out a living until Thrall triumphantly united many of Azeroth's orcs. The Frostwolves, however, chose to remain in the valley rather than joining Thrall in Orgrimmar – and their relative peace has since been challenged by the arrival of the dwarven Stormpike Expedition. The Stormpike Expedition’s desire to mine and plumb the underexplored caves for relics has invited conflict with the Frostwolf Clan, but opinions are divided on who struck first. Were the dwarves who arrived in the valley peaceful explorers who were massacred by the orcs, or did they plan to poach and conquer?

Objectives

Generals - Boss Cores

Cores have been replaced by two bosses, Vanndar Stormpike instead of left team's core, and Drek'Thar instead of right team's core.

They have 2 abilities, first one being Whirlwind that does AoE damage around him, latter being Charge, where he charges to one enemy and does damage to him.

Tip #1: They can only be attacked after at least 1 keep has been destroyed, and they gain 20 armor per each keep that's not destroyed.

Tip #2: When you engage the boss core, be aware that if you withdraw from the fight, they will regain health!

Prison Camps

At exactly 3 minutes in the game, two prison camps will spawn, either above the mid lane, or under mid lane. The goal is to free them by channeling the unlock and not taking damage while doing so. After a short channel, a 30-second timer starts to tick and you win the objective by not letting enemies recapture them for 30 seconds, by channeling exactly the same way.

Tip #1: Not only enemy heroes will try to recapture the camp, AI controlled guards will do the same, you need to kill the guards at all times.

Tip #2: Each subsequent prison camp unlock will require the opposite team to maintain control for an additional 10 seconds, up to a maximum of 50 seconds.

Tip #3: Second and all subsequent prison camps will appear at random after the last cavalry has been wiped out.

Cavalry

Cavalry minions have a small aura that gives all nearby minions and heroes movement speed and damage bonus.

Tip #1: Each subsequent cavalry camp spawn will give more damage bonus. If the left team has completed 2 objectives so far, and the third has been completed by the right team, they will also get the bonus for the third subsequent cavalry camp, even though they have not completed the first two.

Reavers Instead Of Catapults

When a team destroys a keep, they spawn melee superminions called Reavers that lead the other minions into a fight and are good for soaking damage from boss core Generals.

More Tips & Tricks

Tip #1: Make sure your team consists of at least 1 long range hero that can successfully interrupt and wave clear from long range, such as Chromie, Kael'thas, Azmodan and more...

Tip #2: Form your team composition around sustain playing. Because in order to win an objective you need to defend yours, capture the enemy one, and by the time you win the 30-second one, the enemy team will come refreshed for another round.

Tip #3: A good strategy is to capture a boss camp before prison camps in order to force the enemy team to spare some resources on killing the boss, therefore allowing you to win an objective faster.

Tip #4: Usually, destroy at least 2 keeps before attempting the core.

Tip #5: Map wide abilities such as Fenix's Laser ultimate are awesome here to stall the objective.
