The competitive mode in Marvel Rivals features a structured and well-thought-out ranking system designed to challenge players and reward their efforts. Players begin their journey at the starting ranks and climb the ladder based on their performance in matches.
There are eight ranks in total, with the first six organized into divisions and the top two functioning differently to accommodate the highest level of competition.
Rank Breakdown: All Ranks and Divisions
Marvel Rivals’ rank system is divided into eight ranks, with the first six ranks further split into three divisions each, while the top two ranks use an elo-based system rather than fixed divisions. Below is a breakdown of these ranks:
Bronze
The entry-level rank for all players. This is where everyone begins their competitive journey.
Players focus on learning basic mechanics, strategies, and improving their overall game sense.
Silver
A step above Bronze, where players begin to showcase a better understanding of teamwork and more consistent performances.
Gold
A mid-level rank where players start refining their hero usage and learning advanced strategies.
Platinum
This rank signals a clear leap in skill, as players here display better coordination and adaptability.
Diamond
Reserved for highly skilled individuals, Diamond players are the backbone of the competitive scene, mastering heroes and team synergy.
Grandmaster
The upper echelon of the competitive ladder. Grandmaster is challenging and requires exceptional skills to maintain your position.
Eternity
The first of the two top-tier ranks, Eternity players are at the cutting edge of skill and strategy. Rankings here are determined solely by elo points rather than divisions.
One Above All
The pinnacle of the ranking system. Reserved for the absolute best players globally, achieving this rank is a testament to unrivaled dedication and expertise.
Marvel Rivals Divisions and How They Work
For the first six ranks, each is split into three divisions to better track player progress. The divisions are structured as follows:
Division 3: The entry point to each rank. Players must prove their consistency to move up.
Division 2: A middle ground that serves as a stepping stone.
Division 1: The highest division within a rank. Players here are on the cusp of promotion to the next rank.
All players start at Bronze Division 3 with 0 points. As they win matches, they earn rank points, eventually climbing through the divisions to reach higher ranks. Losing matches will reduce points, but the system incorporates features to make progression fair and rewarding.
How To Get One Above All in Marvel Rivals
The Eternity and One Above All ranks operate differently from the ranks below them. Unlike lower ranks, these two do not have tiers; instead, once you reach Eternity, the goal is to accumulate as many competitive points as possible.
During the season, Eternity is the highest rank you can achieve. However, at the Season Settlement, the top 500 players will be awarded the One Above All rank, along with its exclusive rewards.

Restrictions To Playing With Friends
Players can team up in Competitive mode as long as their ranks are within one tier of each other. For grouping purposes, Bronze and Silver are treated as a single tier. All players begin at Bronze rank in Season Zero.
Climbing the Ladder: Points and Progression
The ranking system uses a point-based progression model. Players earn points by winning matches, while losing matches can deduct points. Here’s how the progression works:
Starting Point:
Every player begins at Bronze Division 3 with 0 out of 100 points.
Promotion:
When a player accumulates 100 points in their current division, they are promoted to the next division or rank. For example, moving from Silver Division 2 to Silver Division 1.
Elo System for Top Ranks:
Once players reach Eternity, the ranking changes from division-based to an elo-based system. Here, rankings are determined by raw performance, and players battle for their spot on the global leaderboard.
Season Rewards:
At the end of each season, players receive rewards based on the highest rank or division they achieved, even if they dropped to a lower rank by the season’s end.

Rank Protection and Decay
Marvel Rivals incorporates two unique systems to maintain competitive integrity and player motivation: Chrono Shield and Rank Decay.
Chrono Shield: Demotion Protection
Chrono Shield acts as a safeguard against rank demotion.
If a player reaches 0 out of 100 points in Division 3 of a rank, they won’t immediately drop to the previous rank (e.g., Diamond to Platinum).
Instead, the Chrono Shield gives players a chance to recover and regain points.
However, if the Chrono Shield is depleted due to consecutive losses, the player will then be demoted to the previous rank.
Rank Decay for Top Ranks
To maintain the competitive integrity of the Eternity and One Above All ranks, a rank decay system is in place.
If a player in these ranks is inactive for an extended period, their rank will gradually decrease over time.
This ensures that only active and consistent players can hold onto these prestigious ranks.
How To Unlock Ranked In Marvel Rivals
Gaining access to the Competitive playlist is straightforward but will require a few hours of gameplay.
To queue for a match in Competitive, your account
must first reach level 10. On the plus side, with the vast roster of characters in Marvel Rivals, you'll likely still be getting familiar with many of them by the time you reach that milestone.
Ranked Modes
Competitive modes function similarly to their Quickmatch counterparts, with the main difference being the Escort game types, known as Convoy and Convergence.
In Competitive, both teams play on both sides—each will take turns escorting and defending. The team escorting first sets the standard: the distance they cover with the objective becomes the target for the second team, which must match it within the same time limit.
In the second round, if the second team fails to reach the distance set by the first, they lose. However, if they manage to push the objective even slightly beyond the first team's mark, the match ends immediately, granting them the victory.
What Makes Marvel Rivals’ Rank System Unique?
The rank system in Marvel Rivals stands out due to its blend of fairness, competitiveness, and rewards. Here are some key features that set it apart:
Structured Progression:
The division system allows for steady and measurable growth, keeping players motivated.
Dynamic Rewards:
Rewards are based on the highest rank achieved, not the rank at the season’s end. This encourages players to push themselves without the fear of losing everything due to a losing streak.
Global Competition:
The top two ranks—Eternity and One Above All—focus on raw elo points, fostering a fierce global competition.
Player-Friendly Mechanisms:
Features like Chrono Shield prevent harsh penalties for occasional losses, while rank decay ensures active players retain their spots.
Tips to Excel in Marvel Rivals Ranked Mode
Master a Few Heroes:
Focus on learning a few heroes in-depth rather than spreading your attention across too many. This ensures you can consistently perform well.
Understand Your Rank Goals:
Set realistic goals for each season and aim for incremental progress.
Play Consistently:
Avoid long breaks, especially in the higher ranks where inactivity can lead to decay.
Learn from Losses:
Review your games to identify mistakes and areas of improvement.
Adapt Your Strategy:
Be flexible and ready to adjust your tactics based on the match scenario and the composition of your team and opponents.
Marvel Rivals Seasonal Rewards
Marvel Rivals offers enticing rewards at the end of every season. These include:
Cosmetic Items: Exclusive skins and banners to showcase your achievements.
In-Game Currency: Earn valuable currency to unlock new heroes or customize your profile.
Unique Titles: Show off your rank with titles that highlight your accomplishments.
The rewards are tied to the highest rank you achieved during the season, meaning you’ll never lose out on rewards due to late-season struggles.
