Gamers all over the world are eagerly awaiting the release of Call of Duty MW 3. Activision seems to have paid heed to the fans and answered the most pressing question: When is Call of Duty MW 3 releasing? In today's post, I will disclose the COD MW3 release date and what we know so far about the game.

Call of duty MW 3 Release Date

Call of Duty MW 3 will be released on November 10, 2023. There were rumors that Activision would opt for a two-year release cycle, which meant there would be no COD game released in 2023. However, all those rumors were put to rest with the announcement made by Activision.

The trailer of the game was released on August 7. It revealed many aspects of the game, like the return of Makarov as the villain. If you are an avid gaming buff like me, you would remember that such a teaser was also a part of the MW 2 end.

The battle between FTC and Microsoft provided a glimpse into the November release of the game, as the same was confirmed by a Judge earlier. However, since most gamers seldom follow the court battle, it didn't create headlines, and the speculation about whether the game will be released this year continued until August 7.

Call of duty MW 3 New Features

Through the Call of Duty MW 3 official blog, Activision has disclosed many new features.

1. Modern Warfare Zombies

The new release also allows you to fight hordes of zombies. To do so, you can even team up with other squads. Developer Treyarch is the company behind the zombie gameplay. Numerous missions, including those containing core zombie features, are part of the game. It is expected that more Zombie gameplay features will be disclosed in the days to come.

COD MW 3 will offer the biggest zombie FPS experience that the gaming world has seen. Also, the story will be connected to the Black Ops Zombie universe, making it even more enticing.

All in all, with a zombie map on offer, COD MW 3 is going to take things to an all-new level.

2. Open combat missions

The Official blog also disclosed that the game would offer open combat missions with fixed objectives, but the players would be free to decide how to pursue and achieve these objectives.

Such Open combat missions are spread out in the campaign, ensuring they won't let the game turn monotonous. The enlarged boundaries of the open combat mission allow you to explore things and adapt your strategy to achieve the fixed objective. With the ability to adopt numerous strategies and angles, these will certainly make the game more interesting.

3. New vests

The game developer has already disclosed that combat vests will be a new addition to the game's multiplayer mode. However, there isn't any clarity on whether these would be a cosmetic addition to the game or they would provide additional health. Considering the numerous new features, it is likely that they would have some functionality in the game.

4. Carry forward resources

For those of you wondering if any resource has been culled, there hasn't been any announcement stating the same. Therefore, players can safely assume that most weapons, attachments, operators, and camos will be part of MW 3.

5. Perk system

Perks will be returning to the multiplayer mode of the game. Players would likely be able to use perks right from the commencement of the match. However, apart from the disclosure that there would be a new perk system in the game, nothing much has been disclosed. That is why there are quite a few rumors around this one.

Call of Duty MW 3 Gameplay

Campaign mode:

The campaign mode of the game is slated to be similar. The story will likely continue from MW2. The villain, as disclosed, is Vladimir Makarov. One difference that Activision has confirmed is that the gameplay would be much more reliant on the player's choices. This is not just limited to the open combat missions but also the triggering of cinematic experiences within the game.

Multiplayer mode:

It is expected that MW 3 will build on the multiplayer gameplay of MW2. However, some things are slated to change. Activision has given hints that the features which are likely to experience change include:

  • Minimap features

  • New maps

  • New health

  • Perks

  • New weapons

  • Gunsmith

  • However, in the grand scheme of things, these can be considered minor changes apart from the maps. Activision seems to be working on the aspects of the game that received criticism from the players in the previous edition.

The confirmation that the 2009 maps will be remastered (covered below) has surely made fans happy. The developer has also shed some light on the multiplayer modes that would be available, namely:

  • Control

  • Team Deathmatch

  • Headquarters

  • Deathmatch/Free-For-All

  • Hardpoint

  • Domination

  • Ground War

  • Search and Destroy

  • Invasion

  • Gun Game

  • Cutthroat

  • War Mode

  • However, since these modes are part of every COD game, it is not surprising that MW 3 will also have them.

The overhaul of the perk system, new maps, and remastering of the old ones are sure to keep fans of the gaming franchise happy.

Call of duty MW 3 Maps

All 16 maps of 2009 MW 2 will be available in multiplayer mode. They are remastered, meaning the new features and modes will be available in these maps.

The multiplayer mode is likely to offer 12 new maps as well. However, this will be after the launch season of the game is complete. 3 battle maps will be available, and even a colossal-sized WWII map will be available.

One complaint that players often have with maps is the lack of ability to choose. However, the game developer has confirmed that map voting will be a part of the game. That will surely give players more choice in terms of the map they want to play in.

Call of duty MW 3 Modes

I have covered most gaming modes above. However, there are a few changes in the modes available. During the launch season, there will be 12 new 6v6 maps available, which are:

  • Estate

  • Afghan

  • Derail

  • Underpass

  • Favela

  • Highrise

  • Skidrow

  • Invasion

  • Karachi

  • Quarry

  • Rundown

  • Terminal

  • Rust

  • Scrapyard

  • Sub Base

  • Wasteland

  • In terms of modes, the Cutthroat mode will be new. It will be a 3v3v3 mode, set to make the game more intense.

While Ground War and Invasion have been seen in the past, they are coming back in COD MW 3. With new gaming modes and the ones making a comeback, gameplay is set to become exciting.

Call of duty MW 3 New Weapons

When it comes to weapons, we have good news. For starters, not only will you get to choose from new weapons, but plenty of weapons are also coming back.

According to leaks, weapons like MTZ 762, TAQ-V, and BAS-B. A primary example is BAS-B, which is a variation of BAS-P SMG. TAQ-V, on the other hand, is making a comeback.

There are also small changes, like Lach-9 is likely to be renamed to Lachmann-Sub. Weapons like ANVL-B are completely new as well. However, up until now, these are only leaks. Activision hasn't confirmed the new or upgraded weapons yet. Therefore, there might be some changes when the game is launched.

Call of duty MW 3 Rumors

As with any major game launch, there are numerous rumors. COD MW2 is no different. Below, I will highlight some such rumors.

    1. Red dots make a comeback

MW2 did away with the minimap. Along with that, it eliminated the red dots as well. Red dots usually show up when someone fires. This was replaced with a compass-style mechanism at the screen top. While it did give some clues about the enemy's location, it didn't have the same effectiveness.

MW3 will bring the classic minimap back if some rumors are to be believed. Along with that, gamers expect it will also bring back the red dots. Red dots provide clues to enemy positioning, making the game challenging. So, if indeed they are back, the game's competitiveness is sure to go up a notch.

    2. Slide cancel comes back

It is rumored that slide canceling and reload canceling will make a comeback in MW3. However, it is tough to believe. If they are back, the players will become phantoms like earlier. Movement limitations will likely be removed if they are returned to the game. While this might excite some gamers, it will change the gameplay significantly. I'm unsure how the gaming community will take this were it to happen.

    3. Perks experience a change

While the perk system experiencing a change is given, how it will change is unclear. Therefore, there are many rumors surrounding it. Some say perks will have the functionality of a gear. What this means is that each perk will impart a player an ability.

Let's say you have special gloves; they might allow you to handle weapons fast. Another pair of gloves might offer stronger arms, leading to better firing and recoil handling. Boots might allow you to move faster.

Not much information is known about the perks, but one thing was disclosed: the return of Ninja in MW3 as a perk. It means the players will no longer have to worry about the noise being generated while moving around. It opens up room for an unfair distinct advantage.

    4. WWII could return

Until now, we know that the WWII map will be available and will be colossal. However, apart from that, very little information is available.

It is likely that in such a scenario, the attacking team has to complete a set of objectives while the defending team will try to prevent them from doing so. Some gamers say this gaming mode will be similar to the Operations gaming mode in Battlefield. It is, however, assumed that COD MW3 will bring a more modernized and advanced version of this gaming mode.

    5. Las Almas might be coming back

While the new maps listed above are almost confirmed, what is not is the Las Almas map. For those of you who don't remember, it is a Mexican map that was available in the MW2 2022 campaign. There are a lot of rumors surrounding this map, with some images floating around as well.

Since there has been no denial or confirmation of the same from Activision, I guess only the launch will quell the rumors.

    6. COD MW3 is more than an expansion

Initially, the rumor mills strongly advocated that MW 3 would be an expansion and not a separate game release. However, with so many changes doing the rounds during the developmental stages, it was decided to convert it into a game release rather than a mere expansion.

With the changes that have been confirmed till now, I agree that the game does deserve a new variant release.

Call of Duty MW 3 Platforms

The good news is that Activision has already confirmed that MW 3 will be available on platforms on which MW 2 and Warzone 2 are available. These include:

  • PS5

  • PS4

  • Xbox Series X

  • Xbox one

  • PC (Steam)

  • Battle net

That certainly puts to rest the concerns regarding MW 3 not being available on PS4 and Xbox One.

With Activision being acquired by Microsoft (currently news of restructuring) doing the rounds, that brings up the question, why isn't it Xbox exclusive?

There are two reasons for this:

Sony has an exclusive marketing deal with Activision until 2024.

Sony has already struck a deal with Microsoft Gaming, which has increased the period for which COD will be released on Playstation by 10 years.

It means that despite Activision being acquired by Microsoft, COD will continue to release on Playstation till 2035 by the current look of things.

Besides this, FTC hasn't taken kindly to Microsoft's acquisition of Activision, which is another reason why Microsoft won't push for making it exclusive and hence the deal with Sony.

Call of Duty MW 3 Price

While avid fans are willing to pay a high price for COD MW3, many are concerned about the prices. Fortunately, pricing for most platforms is already disclosed, and it is as follows:

  • Cross-gen edition: $ 69.99

  • Standard edition: $ 69.99

  • Vault edition price: $ 99.99

  • Vault edition upgrade: $ 30

  • The pricing is along the expected lines. Even though avid fans would have gladly paid more, it seems Activision is looking to expand the player base by pricing the game affordably.

Call of Duty MW 3 Open Beta

Activision stated that those who pre-order the game would have access to open beta during the first weekend.

Recently, Activision confirmed the open beta dates:

First weekend: Friday, October 6, from 10 AM PT to Tuesday, October 10, 10 AM PT
Second weekend: Thursday, October 12, 10 AM PT to Monday, October 16, 10 AM PT

There are two ways to qualify for the open beta:

Anyone who has ordered MW 3 in the pre-order phase will have access to the open beta. Such customers will have access to the game during the first weekend.

True to its name, in the second open beta weekend, everyone who has supported platforms can access the game for that weekend. Thus, even if you don't pre-order, you will still have access to the game for a limited time.

So, pre-ordering the game is the only way to do so if you want to enjoy access to the game during the first open beta weekend.

Call of Duty MW 3 Tac-Stance

While MW 3 is offering many new things, one aspect most players are excited about is the Tac-Stance. According to Activision, it is a firing stance, a cross between hip fire and aiming down sights. It will come in handy when the players are in rooms or hallways. In this stance, the player can fire the weapon after unshouldering it in the canted position. Dynamic switching between this stance is also possible.

While long-range combat won't be affected much by this stance, close-range combat will certainly become more aggressive and dynamic. However, it remains to be seen how this stance affects the accuracy and precision of players.

Nevertheless, this stance will certainly spice up things for players.

    COD MW 3 Progression

Many expected Activision to only launch an expansion of the game, but it went ahead with a new variant of the game. To handle this progression, it is using a carry forward approach where a lot of content from MW 2 will carry forward to MW 3. However, Activision has stated that this progression won't be 100%, especially when it comes to vehicle skins, etc.

While the resources might be carried forward from MW 2, Activision has stated that players can only gain access to them when they complete certain challenges. Thus, even if you are an avid MW 2 player, that doesn't mean you will have access to the entire cache of resources because MW 3 has carried them forward from MW 2.
